Ingredients:

For the Cake:

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

For the Butter Sauce:

  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3 tablespoons water
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 325°F (163°C). Grease and flour a bundt pan.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add softened butter to the dry ingredients, and mix until the mixture becomes crumbly.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together buttermilk, eggs, and vanilla extract.
  5. Slowly add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until well combined. Scrape down the sides of the bowl to ensure everything is incorporated.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared bundt pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for about 55-65 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. While the cake is baking, prepare the butter sauce. In a saucepan, combine the butter, sugar, and water. Cook over medium heat, stirring frequently, until the sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  9. Once the cake is done, remove it from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 10 minutes.
  10. Poke holes in the warm cake using a skewer or fork. Pour the butter sauce over the cake, making sure to distribute it evenly.
  11. Allow the cake to cool completely in the pan before inverting it onto a serving plate.
  12. Slice and serve. Optionally, you can dust the cake with powdered sugar or add a dollop of whipped cream when serving.
