El German Chocolate Cake is a chocolate cake prepared in several layers of filling with a mixture of coconut and nuts. Its coverage is exquisite, a kind of caramel cream and dark chocolate. This cake was created in the United States, and not in Germany, what happens is that it was created two centuries ago by Samuel German for the Boulanger pastry company.
* INGREDIENTS :
+Cake
° 85 g (3 oz.) Semi-sweet chocolate, coarsely chopped
° 1 cup (250 ml) milk, hot
° 430 mL (1 3/4 c) un-bleached allpurpose flour
° 1/4 c (60 ml) cocoa-powder, sifted
° 5 ml (1 teaspoon) of baking powder
° 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 ml) baking soda
° 1/2 cup (125 ml) unsalted butter, softened
° 375 ml (1 1/2 cups) brown sugar
° 60 mL (1/4 cup) canola oil
° 5 ml (1 teaspoon) of vanilla extract
° 2 eggs
° 2 c (500 ml) sweetened coconut
° 1 can of 300 ml sweetened condensed milk
° 3/4 cup (180 ml) 35% cream
° 1 1/2 cups (375 ml) toasted pecans, chopped
* PREPERATION :
Chocolate cake
Put the grill at the center of the oven. Preheaat oven 180 ° C (350 ° F). Butter two 20-cm (8-inch) springform pans and line the bottom with parchment paper. To book.
Place the chocolate in a bowl. Pour the hot milk over the chocolate and let stand 1 minute. Using a whisk, mix until well combined. To book.
In a bowl, combine the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder and baking soda. To book.
In another bowl, cream the butter with the brown sugar, oil and vanilla with an electric mixer. Add the eggs, one at a time, and beat until well combined.
Incorporate the dry ingredients alternately with the milk and chocolate mixture. Divide among pans and bake for about 40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center of the cakes comes out clean. Let cool on rack. Unmold.
Accompaniement
In a saucepan, combine the coconut and condensed milk. Heat gently, stirring constantly, until the mixture turns a golden color. Add the cream and mix well. Off the heat, stir in the pecans. Let cool.
Assembly
Place a cake on a serving plate. Cover with half of the filling. Place second cake on top and cover with remaining filling. Let cool completely.
