POLISH BRAIDED BREAD – CHALKA

This recipe came from a friend and it is fantastic. I was in Poland in August and enjoyed the bread there so I was glad when I received this recipe. Everyone asks me for the recipe.”

Ingredients:

For the starter:

  • 125ml milk
  • 1 tsp of instant dry yeast
  • 1 tbs sugar
  • 1/2 cup of flour

For the dough:

  • 1 egg
  • 3 tbs sugar
  • 4 tbs water
  • 2 and 1/2 cup of flour
  • 2 tbs of melted butter 30 g

 

  • Egg yolk for brushing the top

Instructions:

  1. Add all the ingredients for the starter into one bowl, mix cover and set aside for 30 min to rise.
  2. After 30 min add all the remaining ingredients and knead until smooth and elastic.
